December 15, 2016

12-15-16_image1Smart homes are here to stay. When it comes to innovative technology which makes our lives better, and often easier, smart home products are leading the way. If you are planning to sell your home, smart home features are likely to help sell your property faster, and possibly at a higher price. A survey done by Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC and CNET gives this trend some pretty compelling back up.

According to the survey, completed in 2015, the vast majority, 81%, of home owners questioned, who currently have smart home products in use, would be much more likely to buy a home with these products in place in the future. Over 90% of respondents highly recommend smart home products to others, mainly due to the conveniences this technology provides. This is no surprise with 87% of the participants reported that smart home products make like easier.

12-15-16_image2The smart home features which are most desired range from remote access security systems, smart locks, lighting and thermostat control systems. As more products come available, we are discovering new ways to ensure our homes are safer, operating efficiently, which can save big on utility bills, and help conserve the environment. As more millennials are coming into the residential real estate market, the demand for smart home technology has been rising. For those who are still adjusting to the possibilities available with all this new technology, buying a home with these features already in place makes incorporating them into busy lifestyles much easier.

The survey also noted that parents with children under the age of 18 are more likely to seek out properties which are already smart enabled. Security plays a big part in what parents and other home owners are looking for with a smart home. 59% of parent respondents said they were willing to pay more for a smart home, especially if a security system was already installed. With the Smartphone being a full access remote, security has never been easier.  Peace of mind is what home owners are after, and smart security systems provide that, whether a parent or not. 72% of those surveyed confirmed this as one key attraction to smart homes.
