Is now a good time to buy a home?

March 20, 2008

“Is now a good time to buy real estate?” is top of mind for many first time home buyers, investors and current homeowners thinking of moving up to a larger or newer house. And the answer is ……. yes! Despite the fact that the mortgage crunch has folks on edge and there is no way to accurately predict the future housing market  (or anything else for that matter), it’s always a good time to be looking.

The only way to know what’s available and if the perfect house for you is out there, is to be shopping for a home and a mortgage loan. Great deals come along every week, but if you aren’t prepared to buy, you’ll miss the deal. Step One is always know what you can afford, so talk to your lender or mortgage broker about what you qualify for. (If you don’t have a lender, I can put you in touch with a professional who will take great care of you.)

Step Two is know what kind of home and what neighborhood(s) you want. Start looking around and get a strong idea of what kind of home you would be interested in looking at and in what neighborhoods before you actually set foot in any house. Do your homework, ask questions about the in’s and out’s of buying resale, forclosure and REO properties so you put yourself in the best position to purchase a home you really want in a timeframe that works for you.

So long answer to the question, but now is a good time to buy a home.
